source: Atelier Adriano e Michele
Umberto Bergamaschi (Milano, 1954) has been attending the Adriano e Michele painting atelier (San Colombano’s psychiatric hospital, near Milano) since its creation in 1996. His work is characterized by the habit of including the subject of the composition inside a closed and circular shape, where elegantly stylized figures, not without some fragility, acquire the timeless essentially of an effigy. The intention to abstract and marginalize reality elements inside a circle reflects the trend of the painter to find shelter in a silent universe and in a reassuring and protective place.
